1923

  • January 23: France and Belgium occupy coal mines in the Ruhr when Germans following WWI refuse to pay "Reparations"
  • Foreign confiscation of mines sets off inflation and Mining Strike
  • The Beerhall Putsch-the first show of Nazi Power and Force in an attempted coup against the Weimar Republic; SA central
  • Upon imprisonment of Hitler, head of Party turned over to Rosenberg: he edits "Volkischer Beobachter"; one of the most famous Nazi/Anti-Semitic papers.
  • 10.16.24-11.9.24: Mein Kampf: In introduction, Hitler refers to the "resurrection" of the German People.
  • Hitler Jailed in Landsberg Am Lech, Fortress Prison for attempted coup against Weimar Government.
  • 1924

    • Hitler tried and sentenced for role in Putsch in February, prison term.
    • Hitler Finishes Mein Kampf in Prison
    • Hitler released from Prison, takes back Party control from Rosenberg.
    • Reichstag dissolved for 5th time in German History, March 13th 1924
    • Hitler's associate, Ludendorff acquitted in April in charges stemming from Beerhall Putsch

    1925

  • Hitler builds up Party and re-organizes SA
  • Hitler's Policy statement includes:
  • The Nationalization of business in cartels
  • The outlawing of profiteering from the war effort
  • The outlawing of income that is not earned
  • The declaration of a need for a land policy
  • The central value of Work to the German people

  • 1926

  • Reichstag applies membership in League of Nations, admitted 9-8-26
  • Trotsky expelled from Politburo
  • Hitler publishes Mein Kampf, Part II
  • 1927

  • March 10,1927: Prussia /Bavaria lift ban on public speaking for Nazis: Hitler allowed to speak
  • Bloody confrontations between Nazis and Communists in Berlin
  • May Day: 1st Nazi Meeting in Berlin
  • 11-12-27: Stalin becomes leader of Russia

  • 1928

  • German Election: Nazis receive less than 3% of the vote
  • Prussia forbids speech by Hitler
  • Ariel Sharon born in British Rule Palestine

  • 1929

  • The Young Plan: Germany settles reparations allowing removal of foreign representatives in some regions of Germany
  • A Hugenberg funds the plan and paves way for Hitler to speak on German Nationalism throughout Country.

  • 1930

  • Weimar Republic falls in March, fails to keep votes in the Reichstag
  • Hindenburg dissolves Legislature: appoints new Government and Priminister
  • Heinrich Br¨uning elected Chancellor [Priminister]
  • Government operated by 'emergency decree'
  • September Elections: Nazis score victory: Seats increase from 12-107

  • 1931

  • Hitler acquires German citizenry (born in Austria)
  • Runs for Presidency with newly acquired Seats in Reichstag
  • Hitler, in December, on cover of Time Magazine

  • 1932

  • Germany sees Economic Recovery
  • Prototype of VW Beetle, designed by Hitler
  • Hitler pressures Hindenburg to make him Chancellor with increased legislative seats, denied.
  • Franz von Papen made Chancellor, then Scheleicher, vengeful von Papen joins Hitler
  • Enemies of Weimar Republic begin to give alliances to National Socialists and HItler.

  • 1933

    • The Reichstag, German Legislature Building Burns right after:
    • Hitler takes Office in January: Consolidates Chancellorship & Presidency
    • Enabling Law allowing Civil Rights Suspension
    • Hitler has communists arrested allowing more control for the National Socialist and himself.
    • Hitler begins building plans: the Autobahn is begun.
    • Beginning of racial polices which later become law
    • Nazis infiltrate and control Labor Unions: Nazi loyalists receive leadership roles
    • First mass demonstrations (rallies) of "Fuhrer Worship"
    • Marriage Loans instigated: repayment by reproduction of Aryan children
    • Compulsive sterilization of Mental "Defectives"
    • Laws established excluding Jews from Civil Service, Academics, Arts and other areas
    • Rearmament of Germany begun.
    • March 22: Dachau established
    • The first 4 major Concentration Camps are estblished : Dachau, Sachsenhausen, Buchenwald andFlossenberg along with lesser camps. Over the next 10 years, there were over 1000 camps.

    1934

  • Ernst Rohm, one time friend and supporter of Hitler, builder of SA, killed on Hitler's orders : he considered him a threat.
