At this Writing it has been 58 years since the second
World War ended. The events of the Shoah are still being sorted out in
mind and spirit, in both the world and the individual. In so short a time,
the impact of 60 million deaths, both at the time of the Holocaust or in
war-related deaths subsequent to the holocaust, have had their impact,
although it is far less than one would expect. Over the past several
years, the number of websites on the holocaust, or shoah, have gone from a
few thousand to 3,384,187 .1 In this morass of resources, with
eyewitness testimonies, millions of references, and physical traces of the
war and genocide, we have already begun to grow weary of discussion,
demean or dismiss the events, or even to participate in mass denial of the
greated wound the Human race has ever suffered. We believe that it will
not, could not happen again. We forget that WWI, occurring just 25 years
before the Shoah, was named "The War to End all Wars"---and they believed
the same. The Shoah demonstrated to us what our hearts were capable of:
both victim and persecutor.
